Spring Break Skin: How to Prep, Protect & Recover - BEJOU

Spring Break Skin: How to Prep, Protect & Recover

You come back from vacation glowing. Then three days later....breakouts, dryness, dark spots you swear weren't there before.

Here's what happens to your skin on vacation and how to actually prevent and fix it.

On the plane:

What happens: Cabin humidity drops to around 10-20%. Your skin loses moisture fast. By the time you land, your barrier is already compromised.

What to do:

  • Skip makeup on the flight let your skin breathe
  • Apply a thick layer of moisturizer before boarding something hydrating like the Hydrating Dew Moisturizer that won't feel greasy but actually holds moisture
  • Drink water constantly (not just coffee and wine)
  • Bring a hydrating mist to refresh mid-flight
  • Avoid salty plane snacks, they dehydrate you more

In the sun:

What happens: UV exposure triggers melanin production. Even with SPF, prolonged exposure can trigger hyperpigmentation especially if you already have melasma.

What to do:

  • Use SPF 30+ and reapply every two hours (set a phone alarm)
  • Wear a hat during peak sun hours (10am-4pm)
  • Seek shade during midday your skin needs breaks
  • Remember: water and sand reflect UV, so you're getting hit from multiple angles
  • If you're actively treating dark spots, know that sun undoes your progress—one reason we use chontaduro instead of retinol is it doesn't make your skin more sun-sensitive

In the pool:

What happens: Chlorine strips your skin's natural oils and disrupts your moisture barrier.

What to do:

  • Rinse off immediately after swimming
  • Apply moisturizer while skin is still damp
  • Don't let chlorine sit on your face all day
  • If you're swimming daily, use a gentler cleanser at night—your skin is already stripped. The Pureglow Cleanser removes chlorine and sunscreen buildup without making the dryness worse

Back home: recovery mode:

What to do in the days after vacation:

  • Double down on hydration your skin is playing catch-up
  • Use a gentle cleanser to remove sunscreen buildup and travel grime
  • Skip harsh actives for a few days if your skin feels sensitive
  • If you came back with new dark spots, don't panic. Start using a brightening moisturizer consistently the Clear Confidence Moisturizer was made for exactly this kind of damage control
  • Be patient dark spots take weeks to fade, not days

If you're looking for something easy to pack, we made the MINI HYDRATE + GLOW set specifically for travel. Small enough for a carry-on, effective enough to actually help.

A little prep goes a long way. Your vacation glow shouldn't come with a week of damage control.
