Coachella Skin Survival Guide

Coachella Skin Survival Guide

You packed the outfits. You have the lineup memorized. You're ready.

But the Coachella Valley? It has its own plans for your skin.

Indio, California is a desert. And a desert during a music festival means: intense sun, dry air, wind, dust, heat, and probably a few late nights. That's a lot hitting your face at once. Here's what actually happens to your skin out there and what to do about it.

What the desert does to your skin:

The air in Indio has very low humidity. That means your skin loses water faster than your moisturizer can replace it if you're not using the right one. Add direct sun exposure for hours, dust blowing through the grounds, and the fact that you're probably not sleeping enough, and your skin barrier takes a real hit.

What you'll notice: tightness, that uncomfortable pulling feeling, random dry patches, and if you're prone to it, breakouts triggered by your skin overcompensating with oil. Dark spots can get worse from the sun exposure, even if you think you applied SPF.

Before you go:

Start hydrating your skin two to three days before the festival. Apply your moisturizer on damp skin, not dry. It makes a real difference in how much moisture actually stays in.

Don't introduce anything new to your routine. This is not the week to try a new retinol or a new acid. Stick to what your skin knows.

Your non-negotiable for the festival: the Hydrating Dew Moisturizer

This is the product your skin needs in the desert. It's lightweight enough that it doesn't feel heavy in the heat, absorbs fast, and actually holds moisture without leaving a greasy finish. It was literally reformulated because it performed differently in desert air versus coastal humidity. So yes, it was made for exactly this.

Apply it in the morning before your SPF. At night, apply it on slightly damp skin right after cleansing to lock in hydration while you sleep. Those nighttime hours are when your skin does most of its repair work, especially when it's been through a full day of sun and heat.

During the festival:

  • Wear SPF 30+ minimum and reapply every two hours. Set an alarm if you have to.
  • A hat during peak sun hours (10am–4pm) is not optional in the desert.
  • Drink more water than you think you need. Dehydration shows on your face first, and alcohol and heat make it worse.
  • If you're wearing makeup, a hydrating mist on top helps keep everything in place and your skin from feeling suffocated.
  • At night, cleanse thoroughly. You've got sunscreen, dust, sweat, and whatever else from the day sitting on your face. Letting it sit overnight is how you wake up to breakouts and dullness.

After the festival:

Your skin is going to need a few days to recover. That's normal.

Double down on hydration for the week after. Skip harsh actives if your skin feels sensitive or reactive. If you came back with new dark spots from the sun exposure, don't panic, they take weeks to fade. Start using something that works on brightening consistently and be patient.

Your Coachella glow is real. So is the damage if you skip the basics. A good moisturizer, SPF, water, and sleep go further than any beauty hack.

Go have the best weekend of your life. Your skin can come with you.
